The LONG road to the top.

Before his hit album ‘Roller coaster’ MC terror was on the streets doing things he could never imagine, but what made him start music and forget the street life? How did this London born artist get to the top?

Mc terror and ordinary boy from the streets of London, now a popular star for the faces of many in the world. People ask who is this guy and where has he come from. MC terror was born in the heart of East London and lived with his father and mother but when he was at a young age his father had been shot in the heart due to a gang outburst. MC terror at the age of 11 witnessed this tragic incident. He was then bought up by his mother who tried her best to give MC terror anything he wants. ‘My mum treated me like a king, and all I wanted was her to be happy with me.’ But what happened to MC terror when he got older?

At the age of 16 MC terror started hanging around with people he never should have. ‘I don’t know what I was thinking, I just wanted to be cool and known so I thought I would chill with them but I guess I made the wrong decision at the time.’ MC terror went onto doing drugs, selling drugs and becoming part of a gang. He left school at the age of 17 and started doing this for a living. ‘I just wanted to have some fun; I just thought to myself my dad did it so why can’t I?’ 2 years later MC terror was arrested for crime and served 1 year in prison. ‘Prison was like hell, I was being tortured from every possible angle I just couldn't hack it, at one point I was going to commit suicide!’

What made him change his mind and go into music? ‘When I came out of prison I had some people after because of all this gang fights, I was stopping all this things I use to do. When I use to be at home I just use to right lyrics on my wall showing my expressions and one day my mum must have seen it and she told me to go ahead with my dreams and become an artist. I use to go to the radio every day and this just made me much happier. But one day when I was coming back from the radios someone was following me, I heard them and I ran into my house, I ran into my mums room and shut the door, my mum tried helping me but they barged in and they stabbed my mum.’

How did this have an effect on MC terror? ‘I was thinking about leaving music and just get a normal daily job, but my mums last words to me we become a star and fulfill your dream’ MC terror then went on to carry on making his own music, going to radios and record his own songs but who was that man who actually found him? ‘I posted my first track my life on YouTube and a month after posting the track I got a call from the famous star Skepta who told me to meet him up because he thought I was a talent hiding.’ Soon after this MC terror had released his first album ‘Roller coaster’ which was describing how he got here and what he went through MC terror is now an inspiration to many youngsters in this world. This terror journey and tough decisions got him to a place where he would never imagine. ‘If It wasn't for my mum I would not be here now, I am at the top because of her and I hope I made her proud.

Vibe is a music and entertainment magazine founded by producer Quincy Jones. The publication predominantly features R&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers. After shutting down production in Summer 2009, Vibe was purchased by the private equity investment fund InterMedia Partners and is now issued every-other month with double covers, with a larger online presence. The magazine's target demographic is predominantly young, urban followers of hip-hop culture. As of April 2013 Vibe is currently owned by Spin Media.

The magazine owed its success to featuring a broader range of interests than its closest competitors The Source and XXL which focus more narrowly on rap music, or the rock & pop-centric Rolling Stone and Spin. As of June 30, 2012, Vibe has a circulation of 300,943, of which 202,439 was paid, and 98,504 was non paid. Advertisers ran the gamut from record labels to fashion houses to various cognac brands

Quincy Jones launched Vibe in 1993, in partnership with Time Inc. Originally, the publication had been called Volume before co-founding editor, and Scott Poulson-Bryant gave it the name Vibe. Though hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was rumored to be an initial partner, publisher Len Burnett revealed in a March 2007 interview that Simmons clashed with editor-in-chief Jonathan Van Meter. Miller Publishing bought Vibe in 1996, and shortly afterward bought Spin. Private equity firm, The Wicks Group, bought the magazine in 2006.

Jonathan Van Meter's successors were Alan Light, Danyel Smith, Emil Wilbikin, Mimi Valdes, and finally Danyel Smith again. On June 30, 2009, it was announced that Vibe was shutting its doors and ceasing publication immediately, although according to Essence, Quincy Jones has stated he would like to keep it alive online.

After shutting down, private equity investment fund InterMedia Partners, LP bought Vibe Magazine. They have said they "feel privileged to purchase and resurrect such a storied brand. They added Uptown magazine to Vibe's parent company, Vibe Holdings. Ron Burkle and Magic Johnson later invested in the company. Vibe Holdings merged with BlackBook Media to form Vibe Media in 2012.

On April 25, 2013 it was announced that Vibe Magazine along with Vibe.com and VibeVixen.com had been sold to Spin Media for an undisclosed sum. Spin Media was thought likely to shut down Vibe's print magazine by the end of 2013, which a representative stating: "We’re still trying to find a print model that makes economic sense in the digital age. Instead, they cut the magazine's frequency to quarterly.

The artist I have chosen to write about is Eminem. Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972) better known by his stage name Eminem and by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and actor. Eminem’s popularity brought his group, D12, to mainstream recognition. As well as being a member of the Detroit rap group D12, Eminem is also one half of the Detroit hip hop duo Bad Meets Evil, with Royce da 5’9″. Eminem is one of the best-selling artists in the world and is the best selling artist of the 2000s. He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines including the Rolling Stone magazine which has ranked him 82nd on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.  The same magazine has declared him The King of Hip Hop.  Including his work with D12 and Bad Meets Evil, Eminem has achieved ten number-one albums on the Billboard200. He has sold more than 42 million tracks and 41 million albums in the United States, and nearly 90 million albums worldwide.

Eminem quickly gained popularity in 1999 with his major-label debut album, The Slim Shady LP. That first album, The Marshall Mathers LP and his third major album, The Eminem Show, all won Grammy Awards, making Eminem the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LPs. The Marshall Mathers LP is also considered one of Eminem’s best and most successful albums. Eminem then went on hiatus after touring in 2005. He released his first album since 2004′s Encore, titled Relapse, on May 15, 2009. In 2010, Eminem released his seventh studio album Recovery, which was an international success. Recovery was also named the best selling album worldwide of 2010 joining The Eminem Show, which was the best seller of 2002. Eminem won Grammy Awards for both Relapse and Recovery, giving him a total of 13 Grammys in his career.

Eminem has opened other ventures since the beginning of his success. He founded his own record label, Shady Records with his manager Paul Rosenberg. He also has his own radio channel, Shade 45. Eminem began an acting career in 2002, when he starred in the hip hop drama film 8 Mile in which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, becoming the first rap artist ever to win the award. 

Eminem is one of the biggest selling artists of the 2000′s decade and has sold more than 86.5 million albums worldwide to date. The reason why he is so well-known is because his brand is promoted very well on lots of different media platforms.

Space Bound” is a song by American rapper Eminem from his seventh studio album, “Recovery”. The song is released as the fourth single from his album “Recovery”. The function of this video is to act as a youtube viral. This music video is made for entertainment and to attract the audience to watch more of his videos as they are placed on the side bar next to the video. By adding more videos at the side link this will get his fans to be sent to his youtube channel and subscribe. Furthermore fans will then try and locate his facebook fan pages and twitter. This will make Eminem more well known by teenagers and youths because they use online socialising more. Youtube provides an embed code so that fans can embed the viral into their own blogs, websites and facebook pages.

Eminem is shown to be a “split-person” personality. In many of the shots of the video there is a split-screen. One half of the screen shows Eminem as calm, quiet and in love with his girlfriend Sasha Grey. The other half of the screen shows Eminem to be violent, frustrated and paranoid. Eventually he commits suicide by shooting himself in the jaw, this is filmed in slow motion supposedly to generate shock as blood is visibly sprayed across the shot. Because of the profanity and the suicidal scene the audience for this music video would be adults and eminem fans. The mode of address is the profanity and graphic suicidal scene as  eminem fans expect nothing less than this of eminem.

The music video caused attention by news reporters and fans for its high shock value which includes Eminem’s suicidal scene and the use of a gun for it.The video was harshly criticized by anti-violence campaigners in the United Kingdom. Anti-violence group, Mothers Against Violence, told the British Daily Mirror, “It’s all about the money with these videos. Eminem isn’t thinking about the families affected.The music video was both praised by fans and was noted for being rather graphic in nature. The controversy around the video promotes the video because many people will watch it to see if it really is controversia

8 Mile is a 2002 American hip-hop drama film written by Scott Silver, directed by Curtis Hanson, and

starring Eminem, Mekhi Phifer, Brittany Murphy, and Kim Basinger. The film is an account of a young white rapper named Jimmy “B-Rabbit” Smith Jr. (Eminem) living in inner city Detroit, Michigan set in 1995, and his attempt to launch a rap career in an industry dominated by blacks.

The story of Jimmy Smith is similar to the life experiences of Eminem which attracts Eminem fans. Fans are able to identify with Eminem because in this movie he is depicted in a different light. His character is completely different to his alter ego “slim shady”. Eminem is not presented as misogynist or violent. The film is highly patriotic because  through hard work Eminem’s character finally succeeds. It is thoroughly gratifying because fans are able to see Eminem’s character succeed in life.

Young Money entertainment Case study

Young Money Entertainment is an American record label founded by rapper Lil Wayne. Young Money's president is Lil Wayne's lifelong friend Mack Maine. The label is an imprint of Cash Money Records and is distributed by Republic Records. The label has released eight US No. 1 albums: Tha Carter III, I Am Not a Human Being, and Tha Carter IV by Lil Wayne, Thank Me Later, Take Care and Nothing Was the Same by Drake, and Pink Friday and Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded by Nicki Minaj. Current artists include Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tyga, Mack Maine, Jae Millz and Cory Gunz among others.

In October 2007, Lil Wayne said in an interview with Vibe that he had stepped down as President of the label, and had given the position to Cortez Bryant. As of 2009, Mack Maine is serving as President. Rapper Drake signed a joint venture between Cash Money Records and Young Money. President Mack Maine confirmed that Omarion was no longer on the label after many rumours were circulating the internet. To promote their collaboration album We Are Young Money, which was released on December 21, 2009, Young Money artists embarked on the Young Money Tour.

2009–2011: We Are Young Money

The label had three of the top 10 highest 2010 hip hop album sales with—in order—Drake's thank Me Later, Lil Wayne's Rebirth and I Am Not a Human Being. On March 6, 2010, Lil Wayne confirmed that rapper Cory Gunz was the latest artist to sign. In 2011 Konvict Muzik artist T-Pain signed to the Young Money roster after he and Akon agreed to part ways after his last convict release Revolver, later T-Pain revealed that he was close to sign a deal with Young Money, but it never concluded. In November 2011, Lil Wayne introduced 14-year-old singer Torion Sellers.

2011-present: Rich Gang

On February 15, 2013 Mack Maine announced we the Future and Lil Wayne's 14 year old daughter Reginae Carter had signed to Young Money. The next albums released by Young Money were Lil Wayne's I Am Not a Human Being II, Tyga's Hotel California and Drake's Nothing Was the Same on March 26, April 7 and September 24.

In December 2012 Mack Maine announced a second Young Money album will be released. In February 2013 Birdman released a compilation mixtape with Cash Money and Young Money titled Rich Gang: All Stars. Shortly after he announced a compilation album titled, Rich Gang that was due to be released on May 21, 2013 featuring members of Cash Money, Young Money and their various collaborators. The first single from the project, "Tapout" would be released on March 12, 2013 and featured Lil Wayne, Future, Mack Maine, and Nicki Minaj and produced by 808 Mafia's Southside and TM88. The album would then be pushed back to July 23, 2013.
